Mother's Day Ordering, Black Sable, and Rancho Gordo

Hey Y'all,

I'm so excited that one of my favorite fish is in the stores today. Sable! It's a gorgeous, creamy, delicious, captivating, scrumptious, luscious, heavenly fish. (Thank you, Thesaurus.com)
If you love this fish like I do, call them up and put your name on it because it'll go quick! Black cod is the nickname for this fish but it is not a cod at all. Sable has an extremely high fat content, being caught in the cold waters of the north Pacific, and has as much Omega-3 as wild salmon. When cooked, it has a texture very similar to Chilean Sea Bass.

Here's my favorite recipe for black cod. It takes a bit of prep so you have to plan in advance and gather some ingredients. Get your fish today and have the best meal ever out of your kitchen on Sunday evening. https://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-nobu-miso-marinated-black-cod-117238
Rancho Gordo Beans
Have you tried the Rancho Gordo beans that are in all of our stores? Like heirloom tomatoes, these are beautiful and more flavorful than boring grocery store beans. They are not mass produced beans but come from California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico and Mexico. Soak them in the morning and have a delicious "New World" dinner this evening. Fun fact: they are celebrating 20 years in business this year! Check out this amazing recipe that they sent out this week. Any Rancho Gordo medium or light bean will work.

Happy Spring to you! It's time to get outside, enjoy weather, connect with your neighbors and cook fish on the grill!

Did You Know?
We try to spread the word about the wonders of the Catch on every social media platform we can. One way is to include a weekly fun fact about the fish that is on special or any new products we're selling.

This week, we featured two of our new sauces. First, Chef Jon has created an an amazing cocktail sauce that will make you forget all about those store bought ones.

Second, we have a new mustard sauce that goes great on all kinds of fish and especially crab. The best part? Both are made in-house! Ask us for a sample!

Cooking With Chef Jon

Catch-To-Go This Week
Available through Sunday, we have Rainbow Trout topped with Caper Lemon Sauce and a Fingerling Potato Medley.
Starting Monday, we'll have Grey Sole with Herb Butter on a Bed of Summer Succotash.
And Finally
I woke up today wondering what I would write about in this section of the email. Not much was on my mind so I was going to have to come up with some kind of "feel good" message while I walked my dogs this morning.

I have two dogs - a sweet sort-of-fat one named Nemo:
And a little mischievous one named Abby.
Off we went on our walk. As we made our way along the sidewalk we came upon this terrifying obstacle.
Abby took one look at it, put on the brakes and her biggest, baddest growl, started backing up and yep, she slipped her collar. Once she realized she was free, she took off running through places people are not supposed to walk. She bounced through waist high weeds, through a gravel and mud retention pond and finally off towards a construction site with a big sign that said NO TRESPASSING. Suffice it to say that Abby can't read so she went well beyond where I could grab her and still slip back out to safe (legal) territory.

As I stood there in a panic, an Emory Marta bus pulled up and opened its doors. The driver came to the door and yelled to me, "How about we show her some Saltines?" This lady started going through a mountain of bags of snacks, food, drinks and at the very bottom, Saltine crackers. She handed me a few and said, "my dog can't refuse a cracker."

I took those crackers and handed one to my sweet Nemo who was thrilled to think he might be going on a bus ride. Sorry buddy. I called to Abby who looked back and saw that Nemo was eating, God forbid, without her. She looked over her shoulder for a second contemplating freedom and then barreled back over for her Saltine. I captured her.

The driver laughed and said she had seen me chasing my crazy dog through the weeds and mud and she had circled back around the block to help me.

How's that for a feel good story?

Share your crackers and have a great weekend.

Blessings,

Kathleen

Monkfish & Good Day Atlanta

Hey Y'all,

So I did this thing last Monday - something I have never done before. I didn't sleep the night before I did it and I nearly threw up when it was over, but it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Click here to see the reason for my nervous stomach.

Yes, that's me with super nice Paul Milliken from Good Day Atlanta, talking fish and shucking oysters. As most of you probably know and regret, I can talk all day about fish and sustainability and farmed vs wild and why I love the seafood business. It's not as easy on camera but I loved the opportunity to show the city what fresh fish really looks like and to plug my new store in Brookhaven.

One of my favorite parts of the show was when I got to promote other small local businesses that I support. I bragged on Circle A LettuceBeautiful Briny SeaThe Spotted Trotter, and Banner Butter. I don't just love these products because they are local; they are all incredible additions to my culinary experience.

Speaking of small businesses, we are also promoting these gorgeous cheese boards from Joelle & Jane Designs. Maybe it's enough to layout your charcuterie and such on your Corelle unbreakable dinnerware, but if you are looking for something more enticing, take a look at these whimsical and classic boards. They can create something special just for you.
Wine Tasting at Brookhaven

Here we are at our impromptu tasting last weekend. It was a good practice run, so now we are ready to invite you to join us at the Brookhaven location for an honest to goodness wine tasting on Saturday (tomorrow) from 3-5 pm. You will have to wear your masks so bring a straw. (LOL - just kidding. You do have to wear your masks but you can tug it down to take a sip.)

Johns Creek and Milton customers are welcome! Please stop by to see our new store and "catch" up with us!

On Deck with Kathleen's Catch
Did you know that all our recipes and cooking tips are archived in our On Deck with Kathleen's Catch blog? If you ever want to go back for recipes or cooking tips, you can access the blog here or by the banner at the bottom of this email. Type what you are looking for in the search at the top. It's updated when we send the weekly email and is very easy to access. Let me know if you need more pictures of my grandchildren or my dogs added to it. I will happily comply.
Specials This Week
(through Thurs. 04/15):

Monkfish portions for $6.50/each

Rainbow Trout for $12.50/lb

This recipe is the answer to the age old question, "How the heck do I cook rainbow trout?"

You are welcome.
Chef Jon is an old friend of the Catch and we have collaborated on several projects over the years. He is truly a master in the kitchen and when he sends me a recipe I am absolutely confident that it will be a winner. Monkfish is a favorite fish of Jon's and if you would like, it could soon be your fav too. It is actually the tail of the ugliest fish in the sea.
It is the ugliest fish but possibly the tastiest. Chef Jon offers you this recipe to encourage you to cross the bridge from from Ugly to Delicious.

He is working on a video to show you how to prepare this meal and will be posting that on his Instagram. If you are interested (and you should be), follow Jon @chefjonathanbeatty to learn all kinds of cooking tips and recipes.

Catch-To-Go This Week
Available until Sunday, we have Honey Mustard Salmon with Green Beans and Herb Roasted Red Potatoes.
Starting Monday, we'll have Rainbow Trout topped with Caper Lemon Sauce and a Fingerling Potato Medley.
And Finally
I've been going around thinking it was going to rain every day this week. I wish I hadn't spent so much time dreading weather since it turned out to be a fine week. It's kind of like my Monday morning experience. I spent a few days in total dread, but it arguably turned out just fine - at least good enough for me. I didn't get completely tongue-tied. I didn't trip and fall. I didn't accidentally spit on anyone or anything.

It might have been divine intervention but that's okay. I'll take all the help I can get.

So about this weekend... don't worry. It's going to turn out just fine.

Blessings,
Kathleen

Halibut, Steelhead, and Easter Weekend

Hey Y'all,

Yay for Easter! Yay for Spring Break! It's a perfect storm of goodness this week! Yay for pollen! AAAA CHOOOO! (ugh).

Don't forget - we are closed this Sunday. You have until 5 pm on Saturday to get your fish for your Sunday meals! Don't procrastinate!
Discount Fish Freezer
Atlanta’s freshest seafood is delivered to our door every morning and we do our best to ensure that every last bit is sold. Sometimes though, some of our premium seafood products are still in our cases at the end of the day. When that happens, and good fish is left behind, we vacuum-seal and freeze in the goodness, then mark them down 10% which makes it a “Reel Steal” for you!

Worms in Oysters
Worms in oysters, what!? Yes, it may sound unappealing but i t's a naturally occurring phenomenon - oysters come out of the ocean and there are all sorts of critters that want to feed on them (because they are delicious!). They are not harmful but they aren't very appetizing. If you like, we can shuck for you for a small fee to make sure there aren't any extra sources of protein in your oyster shell.
Fin Mail AKA Tooting My Fishy Horn
From Gordon R. - Kathleen, I am delighted that you have opened in my Brookhaven neighborhood. I have enjoyed shopping at your John’s Creek shop from time to time, and my sister, Maranza, is a huge fan of yours in Roswell. I am telling my neighbors and friends about you.
Specials This Week
(through Thurs. 04/08):

Halibut portions for $11.99/ea

Steelhead Trout for $12.99/lb

Some great ideas for this weekend:

Catch-To-Go This Week
Available until 5pm Saturday, we have Garlic Butter Cod with Asparagus and Sweet Potato Wedges.
Starting Monday, we'll have Honey Mustard Salmon with Green Beans and Herb Roasted Red Potatoes.
And Finally
I am very much looking forward to a day off tomorrow and hope you are all able to relax and enjoy family and friends too. Opening a new store means non-stop working for quite a while so I could use the break. But I have met so many nice people in Brookhaven who are happy to have us in their neighborhood. It reminds me that the world is not full of strangers, just a group of friends we haven't met yet.

If you are already my friend, thank you. If you are the friend I haven't met yet, come by and see me today. I can't wait to meet you.

Blessings,
Kathleen
