Abby took one look at it, put on the brakes and her biggest, baddest growl, started backing up and yep, she slipped her collar. Once she realized she was free, she took off running through places people are not supposed to walk. She bounced through waist high weeds, through a gravel and mud retention pond and finally off towards a construction site with a big sign that said NO TRESPASSING. Suffice it to say that Abby can't read so she went well beyond where I could grab her and still slip back out to safe (legal) territory.
As I stood there in a panic, an Emory Marta bus pulled up and opened its doors. The driver came to the door and yelled to me, "How about we show her some Saltines?" This lady started going through a mountain of bags of snacks, food, drinks and at the very bottom, Saltine crackers. She handed me a few and said, "my dog can't refuse a cracker."
I took those crackers and handed one to my sweet Nemo who was thrilled to think he might be going on a bus ride. Sorry buddy. I called to Abby who looked back and saw that Nemo was eating, God forbid, without her. She looked over her shoulder for a second contemplating freedom and then barreled back over for her Saltine. I captured her.
The driver laughed and said she had seen me chasing my crazy dog through the weeds and mud and she had circled back around the block to help me.
How's that for a feel good story?
Share your crackers and have a great weekend.
Blessings,
Kathleen
